New Year in 1850

The most expensive and the most magical week of the season. Here is what happens, where to be, and how to still find a room.

By August every Palace suite is held by returning families. By October the chalets are gone. November and last-minute December are the windows when inventory moves — that is when we work hardest.

The Palace galas, ranked

  • Cheval Blanc Courchevel

    €2,800–€3,800 pp · 8 courses · dress-coded

    The most refined of the seven. Le 1947 staff, white-glove service and a tight 90-person guest list. Live DJ at 1 AM in the bar.

  • Les Airelles

    €2,400–€3,200 pp · Versailles theme

    The pageantry option — costumed staff, four orchestras, the famous balloon drop at midnight. Family galleries at the children's table until 11.

  • Le K2 Palace

    €2,200–€2,800 pp · Himalayan-glam

    The youngest crowd of the four 5★ Palace galas. A multi-course gastronomic gala menu, post-midnight live band, breakfast service until 5 AM.

  • Les Neiges

    €2,000–€2,600 pp · classic LVMH

    Refined, slightly quieter, excellent food. Best pick for couples and families with grown teenagers.

  • Apogée

    €2,000–€2,600 pp · garden-party energy

    Three rooms, three atmospheres — a jazz lounge, a clubbing room and a sit-down dinner. Pick your hour.

  • Annapurna & Lana

    €1,400–€1,800 pp · accessible Palace tier

    The two 5★ properties one rung below the Palace label. Excellent value if booked early and just as polished on the night.

Frequently asked

  • When do the fireworks happen?

    Midnight on December 31 from the Col de la Loze and from the village square in 1850. Best chalet views: Bellecôte and Nogentil. From a hotel: terrace rooms at Cheval Blanc and L'Apogée have the cleanest sight line.

  • Is there anything special on the slopes?

    Torchlit descent of the Saulire by ESF instructors on December 30. Champagne breakfast openings on the Loze for the morning of January 1 (private bookings only).

  • Can we still book at this point in the year?

    Sometimes. We hold a quiet allotment with two Palace properties for last-minute Society members through mid-November. After that it is opportunistic — we work the cancellation list.

  • Dress code for the galas?

    Black-tie at Cheval Blanc, Les Airelles and Les Neiges (men in dinner jacket, women in long gown). Smart-cocktail at K2 and Apogée.
