Lakes & Water

Courchevel's water story runs from the glacier-fed Lac de la Rosière to the surf wave at Aquamotion — the largest aquatic centre in the French Alps.

Five ways to be in or near water

  • Lac de la Rosière

Paddle · Picnic · Swim (cold)

Glacial-fed and properly cold — locals plunge, visitors photograph. Paddle-boards rentable lakeside in July and August. Small refuge serves lunch.

  • Aquamotion

    15,000 sqm · Year-round

Surf wave, lagoon with current river, balneo circuit, sauna village and a 25 m lap pool. The longest indoor climbing wall in Savoie sits next door.

  • Fly fishing the Doron

    Guided · Catch and release

The Doron de Bozel and its tributaries hold brown trout. AAPPMA permits required; local guides handle paperwork and provide rods for the day.

  • Lac du Praz

    1,300 m · Pedalos · Family beach

Down in Courchevel 1300. Warmer, shallower, with a grass beach, pedalos and a small bistro. The family option.

  • Canyoning

    Guided · Half day

The Doron gorges run cool and powerful into July. UIAGM-certified guides only — wetsuit, harness and helmet provided.

Frequently asked

  • Can you swim in Lac de la Rosière?

Yes, but the water rarely climbs above 12°C even in August. Bring a towel and don't plan to linger. Aquamotion is the warm-water option.

  • Is Aquamotion open year-round?

Yes, including winter. In summer it's noticeably quieter — a good rainy-day or rest-day option for families.

  • Do I need a fishing licence?

Yes. A day or week AAPPMA permit is required for any French freshwater fishing. Local guides include it in their day rate.
