What to Pack
Three wardrobes: slopes, après, evening. Courchevel 1850 dresses up after sunset — even casual restaurants expect a smart-casual minimum.
The wardrobes
On the mountain
Layering system
Merino base, mid-layer fleece or down, hardshell jacket and pants, helmet, goggles (clear + tinted), buff, ski socks (one pair per day). Hire skis and boots locally — quality matches what you would buy.
Après-ski
Smart-casual lounge
Cashmere, après boots (Moncler, Inuikii, Sorel), sunglasses, wool trousers or quality denim. Layered for terrace lunches that drift into early evening.
Evening · Restaurants
Smart, sometimes black tie
Jacket required at Michelin restaurants; jeans accepted with a smart blazer. Cocktail dresses at Le Mélézin, L'Apogée and Cheval Blanc bars. Black tie for New Year's Eve and Russian Christmas.
Leave at home
Don't bother
Heavy luggage (porters and bellhops handle everything), full ski equipment if not your own, US-style overcoats — the dry alpine cold needs technical layers, not wool topcoats.
Frequently asked
Is there a dress code in Courchevel restaurants?
Smart-casual everywhere; jacket required at Michelin houses (Le 1947, Le Sarkara, Baumanière 1850). Mountain restaurants accept ski gear at lunch but not at dinner.
What if I forget something?
Bernard Orcel, Bogner and Moncler stock complete winter wardrobes; Hermès and Loro Piana sell cashmere and accessories. Concierges arrange same-day delivery.
